Remote work · Cities
We scored 26 cities on four signals that actually predict a working week: business-hour overlap with the major hiring hubs, cost of living, median internet speed, and visa friendliness. Filter to your situation.
Every city gets four sub-scores from 0 to 100, then a weighted total. The weights tilt toward overlap because the working week is what makes or breaks a remote setup, but cost, internet, and visa all carry real weight.
We do not assign any score to weather, food, safety, community, or "vibe". Those are real but they belong in a follow-up read, not in the data layer. We also do not tell anyone they should move anywhere. Use this as a shortlist generator, then go visit. Numbers below are approximations sampled in 2025; treat them as direction, not decimal-precise truth.
Want a baseline to compare against? The methodology assumes you are working with at least one of New York, London, San Francisco, or Singapore. If your team is split across other anchors (say, Berlin plus Sydney plus São Paulo), recompute mentally — push cities that overlap your real anchors up by a tier.

This is not financial, immigration, tax, or relocation advice. We are not telling you where to live, what visa to apply for, or how to structure your work setup in any specific country. Visa rules change frequently, sometimes mid-year, and the only authoritative source is the issuing government. Treat the visa column as a hint to investigate further, not a green light.
Tax residency is a separate question from physical presence. Spending 180 days in a country can trigger tax residency there even if your visa technically permits it, and many countries have anti-avoidance rules that look at centre of economic interest rather than days. Talk to a qualified accountant in any jurisdiction you intend to spend serious time in. Same for healthcare, banking, and local employment law if you are hiring locally.
For more on actually executing a remote setup once you have a shortlist, read our async communication guide, and use the meeting scheduler to sanity-check how a new city would change your team's overlap windows before you commit.
