What is Asia/Jakarta?

Asia/Jakarta represents Western Indonesia Time, one of Indonesia's three official time zones. Indonesia's geography makes one national clock impractical, so Jakarta anchors the western zone covering Java, Sumatra, and much of the country's population and government. The IANA identifier matters because Indonesia's central and eastern zones use different offsets, and because historical changes differ from neighboring Southeast Asian countries.
