School-year dates are useful for childcare planning, shared custody calendars, travel, tutoring, clubs, and family work schedules, but they are rarely national rules. The UK example follows one English local-authority pattern, while Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, academies, and independent schools can publish different dates. The US example uses one district calendar because K-12 dates are set locally by districts, often with state constraints. Australia uses NSW government school dates, and Canada uses an Ontario board-style calendar with the province's March break pattern.
Treat the table as a starting point for the 2026/27 academic year: term blocks show normal teaching periods, while break rows call out half-term, Thanksgiving, winter, March, Easter, and seasonal school holidays where relevant. The countdown is anchored to UTC dates so it stays stable across time zones. Before booking flights, camps, or leave, check the exact calendar from your school, council, district, province, state, or board.
