Time zone comparison
India Standard Time (IST, UTC+05:30) vs Pacific Standard Time (PST, UTC-07:00). Right now IST is 13h ahead of PST.
Heads up: these zones diverge on daylight saving.
PST observes DST while IST does not, so the gap shifts by an hour twice a year. In January the difference is 14h, in July it is 13h. If you are scheduling across the spring or autumn transitions, double-check the date.
Each row is one hour. Green rows are when both sides are inside 9 AM to 5 PM.

India Standard Time runs thirteen hours and thirty minutes ahead of Pacific Standard Time, just shy of being directly antipodal. San Francisco to Bangalore is the widest practical gap in global tech coordination, and it is one of the most heavily trafficked. The two ends of the day reverse: when San Francisco is starting work at 9 AM, Bangalore is finishing their day at 10:30 PM. When Bangalore is starting at 9 AM, San Francisco is at 7:30 PM the previous evening. There is genuinely no shared 9-to-5 overlap. The pragmatic options are either an early-morning California call (7 AM Pacific is 8:30 PM India, late evening but doable) or a late-night California call (9 PM Pacific is 10:30 AM India, mid-morning on the next day in India). Most California-India teams converge on the 7-8 AM Pacific window because it is just barely a normal morning for California and just barely a normal evening for India. A 7 AM Pacific standing call lands at 8:30 PM IST, which is past office hours but well inside what Indian IT-services shift teams accept as legitimate. The 13.5-hour gap shifts seasonally: PST is UTC-8, PDT is UTC-7, and India stays at UTC+5:30, so the gap is 13:30 in California winter and 12:30 in California summer. The half-hour offset survives every transition.
No conventional overlap. The pragmatic shared hour is 7-8 AM Pacific (8:30-9:30 PM IST), which both sides accept as legitimate.
Default to 7 AM Pacific (8:30 PM IST in winter, 7:30 PM IST in summer) for cross-zone meetings. Both sides accept this is not their best hour but it is workable. For asynchronous workflows, the standard is end-of-California-day to start-of-India-day handoffs: California writes up the day's work before 6 PM Pacific (7:30 AM IST next day) and India picks it up at office open. India returns the analysis by 6 PM IST (4:30 AM Pacific same day), and California has it waiting at 9 AM Pacific. Recurring late-night California calls (9 PM Pacific +) burn out California engineers fast; alternate them with morning slots when possible.
Bangalore is the world's second-largest software engineering hub, and Silicon Valley is its largest customer base. Almost every major US tech firm runs a Bangalore engineering center: Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Adobe, Cisco, Intel, Nvidia, Salesforce, and most of the cloud-native generation. The standard pattern is California-based product management driving California-hours calls with India-based engineering on California-friendly evenings (8-10 PM IST, which is 7:30-9:30 AM Pacific). For non-tech finance and consulting (Goldman Sachs Bangalore, McKinsey Knowledge Center Chennai), the workflow is more asynchronous and the gap is bridged by overnight handoffs rather than real-time calls.
